History

The Unity Church of Christ was formally organized on November 21, 1957. The leader of the church was Esther Zimmerman, an ordained Unity minister. The church had its beginning with a small group gathering for prayer and classes from 1950 to 1957. They met for classes at the Ridgewood center and then at the Women’s Club in Hackensack. By the summer of 1957 the group felt the need to formally organize. Esther Zimmerman had reached a point in her Unity studies to qualify as a spiritual leader of the church. She served as leader until January 1959 when she made her transition.
